Hoshimono

"Nihon kara nanika hoshimono ga arimasuka?"
(Is there anything you would like to have from Japan?"

"Iie. Kekko desu"
(No, I'm fine)

"Nanika hoshimono ga attara, itte kudasai ne"
(If there is anything you would like to have, please let me know, ok?)

"Hai"
(Ok)

Brother Nazeer, a good family friend from Tokyo called hubby to let us know that he is coming to Malaysia in two weeks time, insya Allah.
I was already asleep when hubby received the long-distance call, so was a bit disoriented when I answered the phone. (And it's getting difficult to switch to Nihonggo now when I've been out of practise for over a year)

I thought hard about Brother Nazeer's question later on.
Is there anything I would like to have from Japan?

1. Materials that could help me write "Travelog di Bumi Sakura"
2. Current pictures of Masjid Asakusa - just to take a peek at the old place called home.
3. Not easily-broken Fridge Magnets - we didn't foresee that our kids would
easily cause damages to those that we brought back
4. Onigiri instant flavor mix and onigiri mould - we used up the last packet of flavor mix ages ago. Huzaifah simply loves his onigiri.
5. Nori - for onigiri as well as for snack. Huzaifah loves snacking on nori too. I know there are plenty of nori sold in Malaysia - but those sold in Ueno are still the best (and fresh)
6. Instant miso shiru mix
7 Koara no machi - but it's now available in Malaysia (as Koala's March - but I still prefer calling it by its Japanese name)
8. Calpis - also available in Malaysia. But it would be nice to get the fruity variation
currently marketed in Japan
9. Umai-bo - but it's not good for Huzaifah and I know if there is any umai-bo in his sight, it would be difficult to stop him from having one.
10. Tempura moriawase setto from any good shops selling tempura in Asakusa. The ones sold in Malaysia don't do justice to tempura
11. Choco-cro - Yummilicious. And to my limited knowledge - still not available in Malaysia
12. Any Cold Stone Creamery creation - I thought they are expanding to Malaysia, but can't find any here though...

I looked back at my list - and OMG - it comprises mostly food item.
And I'm supposed to watch what I'm eating, what with being overweight and all
Oh well...

Would I tell Brother Nazeer my long wish list when he calls again?
Hmm....

Tak kot...

kit: hubby cakap kat brother nazeer - apa pun yang dia bawak, kami terima dengan penuh terima kasih. chances are he might bring some snacks including senbei and nori from Ueno, where his office is located. there's one cafe selling choco-cro in Akihabara which is not that far from Ueno... tapi macam malu la pulak nak minta tolong, hehehe...

kalau aku, calpis... kat 1U ada kedai jepun tapi mahal yg amat. bila aku beli hari tu, othman nak pengsan. sebab aku beli sampai 5, RM10 satu. kwang..kwang..kwang... dia kata kalau air coklat @ jus, tak pe la jugak, ini calpis. bagi husna 1 je, pastu yg lain sorok. sebab husna pun mcm mak dia juga, suka sgt. othman pun minum 1/2 je sebab kesian kat aku.

ju: tu dia - hang borong sampai 5 botol??? padanla othman nak pengsan... hehehe... aku masih tengah nak pertimbangkan ni. kalau aku minta calpis pun, mungkin minta yang pati - lebih berbaloi-baloi...

erma: hehehe - tu la kan, bukan senang nak dapat kiriman drpd jepun tu pula kan, kan, kan?

lina: the wish list is partly due to your blog influence - especially entries on calpis, bento and what nots... am still undecided whether or not to let brother nazeer know about the list, huhuhu...

Perhaps you can gently guide him to visit your blog. That way, he'll be sure to read the list of yours. :D

But then, worry not. If and when we confirmed a date for our 2010 trip - I'll be sure to print this list and see what I can bring back for you.

lina: that's so nice of you to offer bringing back some stuff!

*hint* like kit suggested - choco-cro would probably top the list because most of the rest are available in Malaysia and it's not viable to bring back ice-cream, kan? thanks in advance, hehehe...

Hello, do you know where can I buy Calpis here in Malaysia?

Syamim: I think u can find it in Daiso, Sogo or Jusco - but no promise. oh, and my friend found it in a specialty shop selling snacks from Japan in 1Utama.
